Das gemeinsam mit Land Rover entwickelte Modell fängt den robusten Charakter und das expeditionstaugliche Erscheinungsbild des modernen Defender ein. Bei der Markteinführung bezeichnete LEGO das Getriebe als das bislang ausgefeilteste Technic-Getriebe, das vier sequenzielle Gänge mit hohen und niedrigen Übersetzungsverhältnissen kombiniert. Durch Umklappen der Rücksitze wird der Mechanismus sichtbar, wodurch die Technik zum Teil der Ausstellung wird.
