Tennis / Zeichnung Marcel-Louis BAUGNIET (1896–1995) Der Sandplatzspieler, um 1930 Aquarell, Tinte und Bleistift auf Papier 26,5 x 18 cm (vergoldeter Rahmen, Glas zerbrochen) Marcel-Louis Baugniet war Maler, Zeichner und Möbeldesigner. Als Vertreter der belgischen Avantgarde der 1920er Jahre, der der Gruppe und der Zeitschrift „7 Arts“ nahestand, entwickelte er eine geometrische und reduzierte Formensprache, die er in der Malerei und in den dekorativen Künsten anwandte. Der Sport nimmt in seinem Werk einen besonderen Platz ein. Seine stilisierten, oft gesichtslosen Spieler vermitteln Bewegung durch die Gestaltung der Formen. Das Tennis inspirierte ihn mehrfach, insbesondere in einem kubistischen Aquarell mit einem Tennisspieler, das 2022 versteigert wurde; er widmete sich auch anderen Sportarten, wie beispielsweise dem Basketball in einem Aquarell aus dem Jahr 1950, das in der Ausstellung „Art et Sport“ in Mons gezeigt wurde.
