A.M. Cassandre stellte im November 1942 in der Galerie René Drouin aus. Er präsentierte Landschaften, Stillleben, Kompositionen und zwei beeindruckende Porträts, jeweils von Coco Chanel und Pierre Reverdy. Diese Ausstellung brachte ihm prestigeträchtige Aufträge ein, darunter auch unser Porträt. Nina de Polignac wird in voller Größe, ohne Hintergrund, mit ihrem Haustier zu ihren Füßen, in dunklen Farbtönen und mit Schmuck von René Boivin dargestellt.
