Genua, Bartoli, 1590. Quartoformat (245 x 178 mm); 11, [1], 255, [1], 71, [1], 38 (statt 40) Seiten. Titelblatt mit Titel in einem architektonischen Rahmen, überragt vom Porträt des Autors, 20 Kupferstiche, Themen der einzelnen Gesänge in xylografischen Kartuschen, figürliche Initialen. (Verstärkungen an den Rändern des Titelblatts, Halos auf einigen Blättern, vereinzelte Flecken, am Ende des Bandes fehlen 5 Blätter.) Einband aus dem 19. Jahrhundert aus grünem Marokko-Leder, auf den Deckelplatten geprägtes Papier, glatter Rücken mit Trockenprägung und Titel in Gold, besprühte Schnittkanten. Diese Erstausgabe verdankt ihren Ruhm dem Kommentar von Gentili und Gustavini und vor allem den von Agostino Caracci und Giacomo Franco mit großer Freizügigkeit geschnitzten Abbildungen.
