MENZEL, ADOLPH FRIEDRICH VON 1815 Breslau–1905 Berlin Title: Mother with child. Subtitle: The artist's sister holding her child. Date: 1861. Technique: Pencil on paper. Mounting: Mounted. Measurement: 15.5 x 8.5cm. Notation: Monogrammed and dated lower right: AM / 61. Frame: Framed. We are grateful to Marie Riemann-Reyher, Berlin, who studied the sheet in the original, for her kind support with cataloguing the present work. Riemann-Reyher assumes that the present work stems from one of the sketchbooks from 1860/62 that did not become part of the inventory of the Berlin National-Galerie after Menzel's death in 1906. During these years Menzel repeatedly chose his niece Margarete and his nephew Otto as motifs who had been born in 1860 and 1861 respectively. Provenance: - Private ownership, Germany.
