SCHÜZ, THEODOR 1830 Thumlingen–1900 Düsseldor Title: Walk on Easter Morning. Date: 1867. Technique: Oil on canvas. Measurement: 120 x 162cm. Notation: Monogrammed and dated in the tree on the centre-right: 18 TS (lig.) 67. Reverse: On the canvas manufacturer’s stamp. Frame: Framed. There are a total of three versions of Theodor Schüz's 'Walk on Easter Morning' known. A version from 1859 is in a company collection in Biberach an der Riß and a smaller version in the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe, undated. The present painting was painted in 1867 and purchased directly from the artist and has been in the family ever since. Provenance: - Purchased directly from the artist in 1867; in private ownership in Germany ever since. Exhibition: Exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the painter Theodor Schüz, 26 March – 4 May 1930, Städtisches Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf. Literature: See F.v. Boetticher: *Paintings of the Nineteenth Century*. Dresden, 1891–1901, Volume II.2, p. 687, no. 4. This is most likely the earliest version, which was in a private collection in England.
