PAUL VERMEIRE (1928–1974) – abstrakte Keramikskulptur – signiert – kleine Beschädigung – H: 52 cm He was a Belgian ceramist, glassmaker and painter. In 1954, he was one of the assistants who helped René Magritte create his mural at the Knokke Casino. In his paintings and charcoal drawings, he captured the expressive faces and poses of people, seascapes, portraits of family members and religious subjects. Vermeire worked for a time with the Bruges-based ceramicist Joost Maréchal, before setting up as an independent ceramicist in 1955. He produced crucifixes, fireplace and table tiles, ashtrays, vases and numerous commissioned ceramic pieces. He produced his work under the name ‘Ter Ignis’. After 1960, he also created more ambitious works of ceramic art.
