Evert Marinus van Ojen. Cafe Unie in Rotterdam, Architekt J J. P. Oud. Fotografie. 1925. Silbergelatineabzug, Vintage. 22,0 : 15,5 cm. Tintenflecken links unten. english description: Photograph. 1925. Gelatin silver print, probably made somewhat later. 22.0 _ 15.5 cm. Inscribed on the reverse. E. M. van Ojen (1888-1964) took the most significant photographs of Dutch modernist architecture, including buildings by the De Stijl architect Oud. The “Café de Unie,” with its graphic division of the façade, was originally intended only as a temporary structure to fill a vacant lot for about ten years, but it stood until its destruction by a German bombing raid on Rotterdam in 1940. In 1985, the façade was reconstructed (at a different location). - The uncropped print served as the basis for an illustration and is labeled on the reverse as follows: »Cafe in Rotterdam || halbdauernd (10 Jahre), Putz und Holz, 1925« as well as »Architekt J. J. P. Oud« und der Reproangabe »6 cm breit«. - Contemporary illustration of this photograph: Die Form. Zeitschrift für gestaltende Arbeit, Issue 4, 1926, p. 79. Ink stains in the lower left corner.
