Erich Menzel, Side Chair Model 50642 'Menzel Chair' Erich Menzel, Beistellstuhl Modell 50642 'Menzel-Stuhl' Entwurf 1951/51. Ausführung Deutsche Werkstätten, Dresden-Hellerau, 1950er Jahre. 19-lagiges Buchen-Schichtholz, klarlackiert. 80,5 x 43 x 51,5 cm, SH. 44,5 cm. 'Einer der wichtigsten Nachkriegsentwürfe aus der DDR vom ehemaligen 'Bauhäusler' und Konstrukteur Erich Menzel. Dieser erste spanlos verformte Furnierstuhl (... ) entstand aus geharzten Furnierschnittstücken (in 29 Lagen), die mit Hilfe eines dampfbeheizten Pressgesenkes bei einem hydraulischen Druck von 60 kg/cm2 und 140 Grad in 25 Minuten zu einem Formholzteil gepresst wurden (...)' (Vom Sofakissen zum Städtebau, S. 117). Der Stuhl hat weder Schrauben noch sonstige Metallverbindungen.
