Maria Burnham Brook, Britin, 1850–1932– „Die sind wunderschön, meine Dame!“; Öl auf Leinwand, signiert mit Initialen und datiert „M.B.B. / 1886“ (unten links), auf der Rückseite beschriftet mit „Das sind aber Schönheiten, meine Dame! / M. Burnham Brook / Millais / Princess Road / Bournemouth“, 53,5 x 43,5 cm. Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Großbritannien. Anmerkung: Brook wurde 1850 als Marian Burnham Brook geboren, war jedoch unter dem Namen Maria bekannt. Als Tochter von Schiffsversicherungsmaklern lebte sie in der Clifton Villa in Peckham und gewann 1869 den ersten Preis bei der South London Working Classes Exhibition. Als Porträt- und Figurenmalerin stellte sie zwischen 1875 und 1882 sechs Werke in der Royal Academy aus. In den 1880er Jahren zog sie nach Bournemouth, wo sie bei ihrer Cousine lebte und weiterhin malte.
