Archibald Thorburn, ARA, Schotte, 1860–1935 Stockente; Bleistift und Aquarell, mit Weiß übermalt, auf Papier, signiert „A. Thorburn“ (unten links), 41,5 × 64 cm. Provenienz: aus der Brook Street Art Gallery, London. Privatsammlung, Großbritannien. Anmerkung: Thorburn war ein bedeutender und produktiver Illustrator von Vogelthemen und arbeitete mit seinen Zeitgenossen George Edward Lodge (1860–1954) und John Guille Millais (1865–1931) an Publikationen wie der „Natural History of British Feeding Ducks“, „British Diving Ducks“ und „British Game Birds“. Diese eindrucksvolle Darstellung eines Vogels im Flug ist typisch für Thorburns dynamische Kompositionen und erinnert beispielsweise an an die Aquarelle des Künstlers, die am 11. Juni 2025 bei Dreweatts (Los 316, Zuschlagspreis 5.500 £) und am 15. Dezember 2017 bei Christie’s in London (Los 151, 13.750 £) verkauft wurden.
