VEBER, Pierre & Jean. La joviale comédie. Paris, H. Simonis Empis, 1896. In-8 (28 x 19 cm), broschiert, farbiger illustrierter Einband. Rücken aufgespalten, Buch in empfindlichem Zustand. Erstausgabe auf gewöhnlichem Papier (nach den 20-Japon- und 10-Chine-Ausgaben). Werk der Brüder Veber: Pierre, Journalist und Dramatiker, und Jean, Karikaturist und Maler, Mitarbeiter von „L’assiette au beurre“ und „Le Rire“. In diesem Werk werfen sie einen sehr satirischen Blick auf die Gesellschaft des späten 19. Jahrhunderts. Zahlreiche Illustrationen der beiden Autoren. Der spektakuläre, farbige Einband zeigt einen Abstieg in die Unterwelt unter den Blicken zweier Karyatiden, die das Tor bewachen und die Brüder Veber darstellen. Ein wertvolles Exemplar, dessen Vorblatt durch eine signierte Widmung von Pierre Veber an den Journalisten und Historiker Edmond Lepelletier (1846–1913) bereichert wird.
