FLORUS. Epitome de l'Histoire Romaine fait en quatre livres. Zweisprachige Ausgabe in der Übersetzung von François de la Mothe le Vayer dieser imposanten römischen Geschichte. Paris, Augustin Courbé, 1656. Fort in-8, braunes Kalbsleder, grotesk verzierter Rücken, goldgeprägte Schnittkante, roter Schnitt. (8) ff., 1032 pp., (4) ff. Gespaltene Backen, entfernte Kapitale, stumpfe Ecken. Einige wenige Braunflecken, einige Blätter vergilbt. Römische Geschichte bis zur Zeit des Augustus, die als Panegyrik des römischen Volkes konzipiert ist. Übersetzung von François de la Mothe le Vayer (1588-1672), die angeblich auf der Übersetzung von Philippe d'Orléans, dem Bruder von Ludwig XIV, basierte, dessen Hauslehrer er ab 1649 war. Die amüsante Widmung ist ein langer Brief, in dem sich der Übersetzer selbst geißelt, weil er einige Begriffe aus den vom Bruder des Königs vorgeschlagenen Begriffen entlehnt hat. Guter Allgemeinzustand.
