The saloon car of the Bavarian royal train was originally built by the firm Klett & Comp. in 1860 for King Maximilian II; under Ludwig II it was remodelled from 1868 to 1870 after the model of the Palace of Versailles with silk wall coverings, marble slabs and corner paintings on the ceiling. Five years after the saloon car, in 1865, the terrace car was built. Both original vehicles of the royal train can be seen today in the vehicle hall of the DB Museum in Nuremberg. Ludwig II used the royal train, among other occasions, in 1866 for his journey through Franconia.
