SCHÖNER KARIBIK-FLAMINGO Höhe: 1,13 Meter, Länge: 88 cm. II/A, Phoenicopterus ruber ruber. Mit Mikrochip versehen. CIC-Nummer ausgestellt am 19.04.2004. Verbreitung Mittelamerika. Anmerkung Die Farbe seines Gefieders ist mehr oder weniger intensiv; sie hängt von seiner Ernährung und den Carotinoid-Pigmenten ab, die in den von ihm verzehrten Algen und Krebstieren enthalten sind. Sein Gefieder ist leuchtender rosa als das aller anderen Flamingos und tendiert ins Rötliche, was ihm auch den Namen „Roter Flamingo“ einbringt.
