Die ambivalente emotionale Bandbreite von Warhols Werk kommt in diesem „Album“ seiner Polaroid-Porträts von Prominenten besonders deutlich zum Ausdruck. „Ähnlich wie eines seiner Siebdruckporträts verherrlicht und entwertet ein Polaroid von Warhol zugleich sein Motiv, dessen individuelles Ego zum Fluchtpunkt eines konstruierten Bildes des Prominenten wird. Neben Warhols Pantheon der Stars der 70er und 80er Jahre – Liza Minelli, Mohammed Ali, Truman Capote, Diana Vreeland und Howdy Doody – umfasst die Sammlung Selbstporträts von Warhol in Frauenkleidung, in denen er trotz all unserer Bemühungen, ihn zu erfassen, letztlich unergründlich bleibt.
