Albrecht Dürer (1471 - Nuremberg - 1528), Man of Sorrows with Arms Outstretched. Engraving on laid paper. (c. 1500). 11.5 x 7 cm (sheet). Bartsch 20; Meder 20 b (of d); Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum 26 b (of d). Provenance: Bernhard Keller (1789–1870), Schaffhausen, verso with his collector’s stamp (Lugt 384); Dr Julius Elischer von Thurzóbánya (1846–1909), Budapest, verso with his collector’s stamp (Lugt 807, 4061); Hungarian National Gallery (Országos Képtár), Budapest, verso with its stamp (Lugt 2000) and the duplicate stamp ‘Duplicatum Budapest‘. A very good Meder b impression of this rare print, printing strongly and clearly with a light plate tone. Trimmed to or just outside the borderline, with thread margins in places. – With some skilfully repaired tears, areas of paper thinning and small paper losses at the edges. The borderline touched in with pen and ink in places. Some brown spots. Verso with remnants of old adhesive. Overall a good impression of this rare print.
