Flämische Schule des 17. Jahrhunderts, aus dem Umfeld von Rubens: Das Festmahl des Herodes. Öl auf Leinwand 162 x 234,5 cm. Restaurierungen. Ein biblisches Motiv, das Rubens zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts mehrfach behandelt hat. Bei einem von Herodes gegebenen Bankett tanzt Salome vor den Gästen; als Belohnung verlangt sie den Kopf Johannes des Täufers, der mitten während des Festmahls auf einem Tablett herbeigebracht wird (Matthäus 14,10–11). Verwandte Werke Mehrere Versionen oder Varianten dieser Szene befinden sich in verschiedenen Museen: - Königliche Museen der Schönen Künste von Belgien, Brüssel (größtenteils von Rubens selbst gemalt); - National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (von Rubens und seiner Werkstatt); - Alte Pinakothek, München (Rubens’ Werkstatt).
