JAHRHUNDERTS Zoomorphische Suruku-Maske (Hyäne) Aus geschnitztem Holz mit dunkler, alter Patina, darstellend eine stilisierte Hyäne (Suruku) mit langem, schmalem Gesicht, einer länglichen, spitz zulaufenden Schnauze, großen, aufgerichteten Ohren und durchbrochenen Augen. Stellenweise Spuren einer ockerbraunen Bemalung. Dieser Maskentyp steht im Zusammenhang mit den Ritualen der Initiationsgesellschaft „Korè“ bei den Bamana (Bambara) in Mali, wo das Tier Suruku (Hyäne) zu den maskierten Verkörperungen gehört, die mit den verschiedenen Initiationsstufen dieser Gesellschaft verbunden sind.
