DOXA - Seconde Morte (*) A very fine, extremely rare vintage wristwatch with independent jumping centre seconds - Seconde Morte Ref. 15006-3, Cal. Chezard 116, Case No. 5833231, Dimensions 35 mm, circa 1960, Origin Schweiz, Original box, original clasp Case: Steel, push back. Dial: Silvered, applied indexes with luminous dots, luminous alpha hands. Movm.: Manual. Mechanical watches create, through several impulses per second, the illusion of a smoothly gliding seconds hand, whereas quartz watches tick only once per second to conserve energy. A rare exception among mechanical watches is the complication known as the “jumping second” (seconde morte), in which the seconds hand also advances only once per second. In the 1950s, brands such as Omega, Rolex, and DOXA released models featuring this function. DOXA relied on the more dependable Chezard calibre, while the movements used by competing manufacturers were often prone to faults and difficult to repair. Despite being marketed as highly precise, the complication never gained lasting success in the market, which was the reason DOXA discontinued it after roughly ten years. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movm.: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species - such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard - are used in our catalogue or on our website for illustration purposes only. For customs-related reasons, such straps cannot be shipped outside the EU.
