Rolex - Explorer A rare vintage wristwatch with a beautifully patinated "frog foot" dial and caramel-coloured hour markers and hands that have darkened over time Movm. No. 236408, Ref. 1016, Cal. 1570, Case No. 2986311, Dimensions 36 mm, circa 1971, Origin Schweiz Case: Steel, screw back with marking 1016 and I.72, screwed "Twinlock" winding crown. Dial: Black, luminous indexes/luminous Arabic numerals 3-6-9, luminous Mercedes hands. Movm.: Automatic. The Rolex "Explorer" reference 1016 was part of the Rolex range for nearly 30 years after its launch in the early 1960s; the watch is also referred to as "The reinforced Rolex" because of its particularly sturdy design. It features the typical black dial with the bold 3-6-9 hours. While the Explorer was produced in large numbers, very few of the models were designated for military purposes. The "frog foot" dial, with its beautiful patina, is in excellent condition. The hands show some corrosion; the hour hand has a few cracks in the otherwise beautifully darkened luminous material. Case: very good, worn. Dial: very good, slightly oxydized. Movm.: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
