Sie solle sich keine Sorgen machen, weil sie nichts von mir hört: „Wir haben drei Briefe erhalten, die in Mauretanien verloren gegangen waren, die zur gleichen Zeit aus Dakar aufgebrochen waren und aus Südamerika stammten. […] Ich bin vor ein paar Stunden aus Chile angekommen. Es ist schon spät. Die Post geht gleich ab, und ich habe kaum ein paar Minuten Zeit, dir zu schreiben. […] Aber ich habe so viel Arbeit mit dieser Chile-Route! Und dann noch ein Telegramm aus Paris, das mich zu einer Studienreise nach Peru, Bolivien und in die Republik Ecuador schickt. Ich fliege mit einem Sonderflugzeug los und bleibe einen Monat lang weg. Eine schöne, aber unerwartete Reise steht bevor.
