Haywen T'ANG (1927-1991) Small abstract watercolour. T'ang Haywen, born on 20 December 1927 in Amoy in Fujian province and died on 9 September 1991 in the 14ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, was a French painter of Chinese origin who lived and worked in Paris. T'ang belonged to the second generation of Chinese artists who left for France after the Second World War, but unlike his contemporaries Chu Teh-Chun and Zao Wou-Ki, who had attended the Hangzhou Academy, T'ang had no formal art education. It was his grandfather's teaching of calligraphy and the principles of Taoism that shaped his intellectual development and outlook.
