A LARGE OTTOMAN FIRMAN ILLUMINATED WITH THE TUGHRA OF SULTAN SELIM III (r. 1789 - 1807)

A large firman with the tughra of sultan Selim II (reg. 1203-1222 AH/1789-1807 AD) relating to the riots of various parties in a Waqf endowment. Ottoman, Constantinople, dated 1211 AH/1796 AD, or 1221 AH/1806 AD Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, 37 lines to the page written in small divani script in black ink, a large tughra in gold above text, tears, some staining affecting small areas of text, creased, in mount CATALOGUE NOTE The document relates to the transition of the rights over the waqf institution in the city of Antep, where the control of the institution was in the hands of Fatima Khatun, the daughter of Muhammad Beg bin Ghauri, and now being divided between the successors of Sultan Ghauri. 55.5 by 47 cm. excluding the frame, 72 by 62.5 cm. including the frame.
