"S. Maria Ab Incarnatione". France? 18th c Engraving, wove paper, 12 x 9,2 cm, hand-coloured, painted border, 15,3 x 13,9 cm paper over wood, ms. legends on upper and lower side. Marie of the Incarnation, also known as Madame Acarie (1566-1618), foundress of the nuns of the Discalced Carmelite Order in France, who later became a lay sister of the Order. She has been called the "mother of Discalced Carmel in France" and beatified by Pope Pius VI in 1791. Depicted here with the Sacred Heart mildly looking up towards the Holy Spirit surrounded by putti. On upper border "Ecce ignis et ligna, ecce (illegible) victima holocausti".
