Set of hand-coloured playing cards. South of Italy [late 18th c.?] 7,5 x 4,5 cm, round corners, 37/40 cards (aces of coin and cup and 4 of club missing). Back: domino paper. Mounted under photo's corners under 4 glasses and frames, ± 103 x 12 cm (traces of use). Rare and small set of hand-coloured playing cards. Popular game, largelly used in Spain and the South of Italy (Sicily, Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, Piacenza, Naples, etc.). The cards are classified by order of importance in the frames and following their suit : swords, cups, coins and clubs. All suited decks have 3 stylised face cards: knave, knight and king.
