White Pecopteris Fossil Fern Specimen Group. Carboniferous Period, 359-259 million years B.P.. A group of two white Pecopteris sp. fossil fern specimens in matrix. 1.2 kg total, 21-24.5 cm (8 1/4 - 9 3/4 in.) From St. Clair, Pennsylvania, USA. Acquired during the 1980s. Pradi collection, Boston, USA. These fern fossils are very common from coal mining areas around the world. However, it is the unique state of preservation of the white on black shale that gives the St. Clair ferns their beauty and rarity. Sometimes you will see the white has turned to a rust colour. Nowhere else in the world is such a combination found. [2, No Reserve]
