Olio e sabbia su cartoncino. 36 x 46 cm. Firmato e datato in basso a sinistra «S. Sprotte 73». - Pittore e disegnatore con una formazione in filosofia dell’arte. S. realizzò paesaggi, marine, nature morte e ritratti. Fu allievo di Emil Orlik a Berlino e allievo prediletto di Karl Hagemeister a Werder/Havel. Si stabilì a Kampen, sull’isola di Sylt, dove divenne un punto di riferimento della vita artistica. Le opere del suo periodo di maturità, dalle caratteristiche calligrafiche, riescono a rappresentare con pochi tratti precisi le atmosfere più disparate del mare e del tempo.
