Inizia il suo apprendistato all’età di 17 anni nel laboratorio dei suoi genitori, Jacques e Rolande Pouchain. Suo padre è ceramista e pittore, sua madre decoratrice. Si iscrive come artigiano alla Camera dell’Artigianato nel 1977 e produce allora ceramiche d’uso quotidiano. Ma ben presto si cimenta nelle sue prime sculture di animali. L’ossido che utilizza è una delle peculiarità delle sue opere, una sorta di firma. Pezzi di un nero opaco e profondo che assorbe la luce.
