Leonhard Beck - L'arciduca Massimiliano impara il francese dalla moglie Maria di Borgogna - 1515 circa Descrizione: L'arciduca Massimiliano I seduto in un giardino con la moglie Maria di Borgogna, mentre si insegnano a vicenda le rispettive lingue. Xilografia tratta da *Der Weisskunig* (Il Re Bianco), un romanzo cavalleresco e biografia appena velata dell’imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero Massimiliano I (1486–1519), scritto in tedesco da Massimiliano e dal suo segretario tra il 1505 e il 1516. Sebbene non sia esplicitamente identificato come tale nel libro, Massimiliano appare come il «giovane» Re Bianco, mentre suo padre Federico III è rappresentato come il «vecchio» Re Bianco. Il libro è oggi ricordato soprattutto per le 251 splendide illustrazioni xilografiche, realizzate ad Augusta tra il 1514 e il 1516, con Hans Burgkmair il Vecchio e Leonhard Beck come artisti principali. Questa è opera di Leonhard Beck (ca. 1480-1542). Stampa ricavata dalle lastre ritrovate nel 1775.
