Nota: L’autoritratto occupa un posto fondamentale nell’opera di Jean-Olivier Hucleux. Figura di spicco dell’iperrealismo francese, lavora in modo ossessivo partendo da fotografie in cui l’artista declina il proprio volto, ponendo la questione dell’identità e dello status del pittore. Nel 1985-86, Hucleux orienta la sua ricerca verso il disegno a matita: realizza innanzitutto il proprio autoritratto e prepara, in vista della Fiera Internazionale d’Arte Contemporanea (FIAC) del 1987 alla Galerie Beaubourg, una serie di autoritratti disegnati. Continua la serie di ritratti disegnati in vista delle mostre in programma nel 1991.
