Il soggetto ritratto, Madame Nina de Villard (moglie dello scrittore Hector de Callias) è la stessa ritratta nel dipinto ad olio Signora con ventagli (1873-74) oggi conservato al Musée D'Orsay, e figura stravagante dei salotti artistico-letterari parigini nel XIX secolo. Lastra xilografica creata nel 1874 ma pubblicata solo nel 1910 in Manet and the French Impressionists di Theodore Duret. Di questo esemplare esistono due varianti, la presente e una versione con aggiunta di ventaglio alla sinistra della figura. (1) Carta leggermente brunita con alcune macchie sparse. Inciso in buono stato conservativo.
