HENRI GABRIELS IBELS (1867 - 1936) - "les bêtes humaines" - litografia - firmata sulla lastra - scuola francese - 22 x 24 cm Henri-Gabriel Ibels (1867–1936) was a French painter, illustrator, engraver and poster artist. As a student at the Académie Julian in Paris, Henri-Gabriel Ibels met Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, Paul-Élie Ranson and Paul Sérusier, who formed the Nabi group centred around *Le Talisman*. Nicknamed the ‘Nabi journalist’ for his penchant for social life, he was a political illustrator who spent much of his time in the newspapers, and was one of the masters of poster art and drawing. He drew his inspiration from street life, café-concerts, boxing rings and the circus. Several of his works are held in public collections, such as: Chicago, Art Institute of Chicago: New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art.
