Small mosaic plaque depicting the Pyramid of Caius Cestius in Rome, set between the Aurelian Walls and Porta San Paolo, 19th century 20.7 x 27.8 cm - framed 33 x 40.5 cm This view documents the appearance of the Roman monument between the late 16th and 17th centuries and draws inspiration from the engraving in Marco Sadeler's "Vestigi delle Antichità di Roma" (Vestiges of the Antiquities of Rome), published by him in 1606, based on drawings by the French artist Étienne Du Pérac; molded frame in gilded wood with a Mecca pattern. Incomplete paper label with handwritten ink inscription on the back. Minor defects.
