Mosaicist from the Vatican Studio of the Reverend Fabric of St. Peter's (first half of the 19th century) Circular black marble top with malachite trim and fine mosaic inserts Diameter 51 cm - Thickness 2 cm At the center are Pliny's doves within a lapis lazuli border, surrounded by eight trapezoidal views of Rome enclosed by a thin red marble trim; at the bottom, in the center, are St. Peter's Square and the Vatican Basilica; counterclockwise are the Flavian Amphitheater, the Temple of Hercules Victor and the Fountain of the Tritons, the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the Tivoli Waterfalls, the Pantheon, the Cordonata del Campidoglio, the Tiber and Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Roman Forum.
