Inlaid chest of drawers in various woods, Lombardy, late 18th century 96 x 128 x 65 cm Decorated with floral and stylized Greek fret elements from the Neoclassical repertoire; the front is protected by a retractable door concealing two drawers and a third, smaller one nestled in the frame beneath the top; the top is centered by a musical allegory within an oval reserve; the legs are truncated conical. Defects and restorations. This piece is an example of the successful Lombard production between the late 18th century and the first quarter of the 19th century, often following the models developed by Giuseppe Maggiolini (Parabiago, 1738–1814). Its formal structure essentially follows the stylistic dictates of full Neoclassicism, elevated to the highest technical and decorative expression by the renowned Milanese cabinetmaker and, in some cases, by his followers.
