Simone Setti (Carpi, 1615 - 1680) Large two-tone scagliola panel within a frame 64x128 cm - framed 108x174 cm At the center, a shaped shield encloses a classical-style figurative scene with the goddess Diana depicted in motion, extending her right arm toward a deer chased by a dog and holding a bow in her left hand. All around, a dense decoration of large scrolls of richly jagged and branched acanthus leaves covers the entire surface. In the middle, above and below the shield, two large shells stand out, a decorative motif typical of Renaissance and Baroque ornamentation. On the sides of the central panel, the decoration is organized into four medallions formed by intertwined leaves: inside each medallion is a parrot perched on a branch, captured in various poses. The entire composition is enclosed by a thin perimeter frame imitating marble. The walnut frame features a wide moulded band creating cuspated corners, punctuated by bands carved in the shape of a spinning top.
