An archaeological-style bronze male head, 19th century 60 x 24 x 27 cm The face features empty eye sockets, a typical feature of hollow bronze castings intended to house glass-paste eyes. The hair is rendered in short, wavy, curly locks, arranged tightly on the head, following patterns reminiscent of late Hellenistic art and Imperial Roman portraiture; the nose is straight and sharp, and the lips are pursed. The work features a deliberately irregular and jagged cut at the base of the neck, specifically designed to give it the appearance of an ancient fragment or a mutilated archaeological find. The dark patina, with greenish and reddish hues, simulates the corrosion of the metal typical of ancient bronzes buried underground or recovered from the seabed.
