GOLTZIUS Hendrick (1558-1617). Three Plates from the Passion. 1596-99. Lot of three plates of the twelve dedicated to the Passion, produced by Goltzius between 1596 and 1598, reflecting the stylistic influence of Lucas van Leyden. They immediately became popular, with two versions published during the artist's lifetime and several later reprints. Engraving, (200 x 133 mm). 3 engraved plates: 'Soldiers playing dice for Christ's cloak', 'Breaking of bread' and 'Jesus before Pilate', all in the first edition, two of these watermarked with crowned coat-of-arms (difficult to read, probably Strasburg Lily) (some wear).
