(double page)-[24]-1254-[42]-46 pp. (date cut off from the imprint, front. with frayed edges, paper browned, sometimes trimmed shaving the text, a few stains, last leaf partly detached). Marbled calf, gilt-ruled boards with two brass slasps, spine with barely raised bands (traces of an oval medallion and metal corner-pieces on the upper cover, and probably also on the lower cover concealed by the silver binding, which is firmly attached at this point). Later encased in a hinged repoussé silvered-metal binding, boards decorated with the Virgin and Child and the Crucifixion within diapered and lobed ornamental frames, spine similarly decorated, shaped repoussé silver fittings covering the headcaps and extending over part of the edges at head and tail. Nice condition. Uncommon edition of this hymnal, frequently reprinted throughout the 18th c., ill. with an allegorical double-page title-front. engr. by H. Westphalen after Rond, incorporating a panoramic view of the city of Hamburg. The last part, "Christliche Gebethe" (46 pp.), has its own title page. The original binding was stripped of its metal furniture, except for the clasps, in order to be fitted into a finely crafted, custom-made silvered-metal binding. Ref. Cp.
