The crash, which involved the famous South Sea and Mississippi Companies, inspired this anonymous publication of an extraordinary Dutch compilation of prospectuses, plays, poems, commentaries, and satirical prints [...] a unique and splendid record of the financial crisis and its cultural dimensions" (Goetzmann).
