1119 - DE BIE, Jacques Livre contenant la genealogie et descente de ceux de la maison de Croÿ tant de la ligne principale estant chef du nom et armes d'icelle que des branches et ligne collaterale de la dicte maison. [Antwerp J. De Bie 17th c.] Folio: [51] engravings (some light foxing mostly marg., some marg. stains). Contemp. marbled paper boards. Work entirely engraved by Jacques De Bie commissioned by Charles de Croÿ (1560-1612) in memory of his ancestors. It remained unfinished at his death in 1612 and the text which was supposed to accompany the engravings was never printed. The number of engravings varies from one copy to another. Our set is probably from a later 17th-c. issue with a watermark not recorded by "Bibliotheca Belgica" (vase surmounted by a fleur-de-lis) and is composed of 51 (of 75 according BB) engravings: 4 (of 10: 6 geneal. trees missing)) preliminary pl. - title within a Renaissance border with 6 coat of arms, the arms and motto of the House of Croÿ, a portrait of Charles de Croÿ, titles of Ch. de Croÿ within an architectural portico - and 47 (of 58, the 8 last being only in the 2nd issue) portraits. The 7 views are missing. Enriched with 2 additional medallion portraits (mounted on contemp. lvs). Ref. BB I:291-292. - Saffroy 39638 ("Ouvrage fort rare qui ne se présente jamais avec une collation identique"). Prov. Pierre-Marie de Calonne de Beaufaict (or Beaufay) (†1762), Canon of Tournai Cathedral and author of local historical and genealogical works (ms. entry on title dated 174[7?]). - Darmane or D'Armand ?
