581 - Writing portfolio with shaped flap, decorated in the Romantic style. [Brussels? Dero-Becker? c. 1830-1850] Cardboard and burgundy straight-grain morocco, 23 x 30,5 cm (closed), fitted with a silvered-metal lock, richly decorated with large blind-stamped plaque and gilt tooling, leather-lined interior, the left pastedown fitted with three expanding compartments lined in burgundy watered cloth and with gilt-lettered tabs "Lettres à répondre”, “Lettres répondues” and “Notes diverses”, the right pastedown with a gilt-printed perpetual weekly calendar, with a blotting-paper booklet in burgundy watered cloth attached with a green ribbon (key missing, minor rubbing and a few sm. scratches, ribbon broken). Nice portfolio attributable to the Brussels Dero-Becker firm (for a similar example, see lot n. 580), a print dealer and lithographic printing house active in the first half of the 19th century.
