Ghent 23 January 1890 Carbon print, Boudoir format (21 x 13 cm), photographer credit on verso (Achille Sacré-Smits/Gand), incl. a printed "discours prononcé aux funérailles de Edouard Beernaert décédé à Gand le 23 janvier 1890" (17 p.). Photograph set into a Balsane cover with a chagrin finish, silver embossed title, double decorative border (worn, yellowed printed paper). Print in good condition. Posthumous tribute dedicated to Edouard Beernaert (1844-1890) who founded the Beernaert Dry Plate company, the first mechanised factory for gelatine bromide dry plates, in 1880. Achille Sacré-Smits (1857-1897) was the young brother of Edouard Sacré-Smits, claimed to be the successor of Beernaert Frères, after François Michel, and was the general agent in Belgium for "Plaques Photographiques Beernaert".
