Longue et intéressante lettre relative à l’écriture de son autobiographie : « [ ] The corrected two-hundred pages went into the mail yesterday. You should have received them by the time you get this letter. Your skilful and perceptive cutting is of tremendous help. It lets me do in hours what might otherwise have taken days. Vety many thanks. As to my plans and the last approximatively eight hundred pages: I will be in the Hawaiian Islands until Monday, then fly to South-East Asia. I should arrive in the Philippines next week [ ] ». Il poursuit « At your office, I suggested sending the last 800 pages, after you have completed the cutting, to me in the Philippines [ ]. « At the Friday-morning meeting in Mr. Javonovich’s office, I said l would like to have the conplete first-draft manuscript before starting to read it. On second consideration, I believe it would be better for me to start reading the first draft as soon as the portions are available that you have re-checked yourself. May be we can save some more time this way. Of course I leave the decision to circumstance and you ! ». Lindbergh écrira deux autres ouvrages après 1969 qui furent publiés par son ami et éditeur William Jovanovich [également éditeur d’Umberto Eco, d’Hannah Arendt, etc] : The Wartime Journal of Charles A. Lindbergh, publié en 1970 (formé de plus de mille pages) et Autobiography of Values, publié à titre posthume, long de plus de 2000 pages.
