This climat, located in the heart of the Morey-Saint-Denis vineyard, is renowned for the elegance of its wines, approachable in their youth, fine and silky, in the spirit of Chambolle-Musigny. At Lignier, the vine from which this cuvée comes was planted in 1959 at the foot of Clos Saint-Denis, on a clay-limestone soil made up of many small stones. The ageing potential is about ten years. Les Chaffots, for its part, is a climat on the upper part of the slope, like Monts-Luisants. The wines made from it are renowned for their freshness and minerality as well as their structure. At Domaine Hubert Lignier, the vineyard parcel was planted in 1968, above Clos-Saint-Denis, at an altitude of 330 metres. Its fine exposure allows it to combine freshness and ripeness, and to deliver one of the most deeply coloured wines of the estate. The Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes cuvée comes from the blend of two parcels: Faconnières, a vineyard planted in 1947 and 1960, and Chenevery, planted in 1936, 1942 and 1943. Close to Clos de la Roche, its soil is very thin. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée offers dense, complex and smooth wines, made from small bunches affected by millerandage. Counted among the exceptional vintages, 2019 stands out for a rare balance. After a mild winter, a cold April and a favourable spring, June turns out cool and rainy. The summer, sunny and at times scorching, is saved by the August rains, which promote even ripening. With remarkable phenolic ripeness, the grapes are harvested as early as 17 September at the estate. 2019 is distinguished by its outstanding ageing potential and by wines combining depth, density, structure, freshness and finesse.
