Domaine Hubert Lignier, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, 2021 (3 x Magnum) Region: Burgundy Fill Level: excellent Capsule: ok Cork: ok Label: excellent appearance Packaging: original wooden case Notes: This little-known grand cru of 2.8 hectares has the particularity of sharing its appellation area with Charmes-Chambertin, with which it also shares the same geological ensemble. Located in the extreme south of Gevrey-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin adjoins the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis and its Clos de la Roche. At Lignier, the 10-are parcel, along the route des Grands Crus, is planted on a free-draining, stony, gravelly and sandy soil, where the Mazoyères expresses itself with lightness, length and elegance. 2021 is the first vintage of this appellation at the estate, previously vinified under the Charmes-Chambertin appellation. Although 2021 is the year of freshness, it has nonetheless produced remarkable bottles. The winter, alternating between cold and mild, is followed by polar winds and severe frosts from 6 to 9 April. Thanks to a warm and bright June, the flowering goes well. Until mid-August, the summer is very wet and temperatures are cool. Despite a fortnight of sunny, dry weather in late August, autumnal conditions return in September, until the harvest on 23 September. In 2021, the wines are fresh, highly aromatic and airy, supported by firm, fine tannins.
