Papal States silver lucerna - Rome 19th century after 1815, mark of VINCENZO II BELLI (1828-1859)

Made from a design by Gioacchino Belli (1787-1822) by his nephew Vincenzo II Belli (1828-1859). Stepped circular base with concentric flutes, truncated column shaft topped by two opposing caryatids; four-spout oil tank in the shape of an elephant's head from which are suspended tools for maintaining and extinguishing the lamp supported by chains. Lid with celestial globe topped by a stork and snake. Oval-shaped fan shade. Fully hallmarked on all pieces with the chamber marks in use in Rome after 1815 for silver at 10 ounces and 16 denari (889/1000) and with the mark of the silversmith Vincenzo Belli (1828-1859). (Ref.
