1563 - Ecclesiastical portrait. Spanish School. 19th century

Ecclesiastical portrait. Spanish School. 19th century Oil on canvas. Half-length portrait of a high-ranking clergyman, as indicated by the medal of civil merit he wears around his neck, seated against a background of red curtains and a bookshelf. His black attire, complete with a clerical collar and skullcap, reinforces his clerical character. He holds a small volume, possibly a breviary, in his hand. The work stands out for the solidity of the facial modeling, treated with delicacy and a range of warm tones. The composition highlights the intellectual and moral authority of the subject. The style is sober and academic, typical of official 19th-century Spanish portraiture. 103 x 80 cm Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist.
