858 - Saint Joseph with the Child, Granada School, 18th Century

Saint Joseph with the Child, Granada School, 18th Century Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 102 x 80 cm. A devotional composition of intense emotional intimacy in which Saint Joseph holds the Christ Child in a protective and contemplative pose. The figure of the saint is enveloped in ample ochre and blue drapery, rendered with soft, impasto brushstrokes, while the naked Child leans towards his father's face, creating a delicate emotional bond. The scene unfolds against a dark background with tenebrist undertones, drawing attention to the illuminated faces and the carefully modeled hands. The flowering staff alludes to the purity of Saint Joseph and reinforces the symbolic nature of the composition. The work displays a traditional Baroque style, with warm modeling, soft light transitions, and a contemplative atmosphere characteristic of 18th-century Spanish religious painting.
